The word delta is a symbol for change. Delta Center California aims to help associations, payers and providers change policy, payment and practices to ultimately improve lives.
Delta also connotes confluence (as in a river delta). This aligns with our goal of fostering novel collaboration by bringing together primary care and behavioral health leaders who have often worked on independent agendas. It is about bringing together workstreams around policy and practice change into one conversation.
A delta is a fertile environment for new growth. This aligns with our desire to inspire innovation and facilitate learning by bringing together influencers of change.
Finally, our name roots our work in the history of community health and social justice. The name honors one of the first federally-qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the United States: the Delta Health Center established in Mississippi in 1965.
